So GBF’s main quest just updated and, for the first time in what feels like 2,141,251 years, we finally get Byleistr Arcus’ appearance. Maybe some people don’t know this, but even though I’m not really into GBF anymore, I used to be super into it back around 2016. The reason I’m writing this isn’t because I’m a Byleistr fan or anything, but because he’s directly tied to my absolute favorite character(basically my kamioshi at this point) and he's Loki. Yes, Loki is one of my all-time favorite characters in the entire series. I love him so much that it overrides my contempt for the franchise. Proof? The fact that I still pay attention to the main story (not the events) should be enough of a clue. Loki is the one anchor keeping me tied to this pile of mess of a series.

My love for him has waned a little over the years, but it’s still strong enough to make me care about GBF’s main story. That alone shows how attached I am to Loki. Anyway, I wanted to write my thoughts because we finally got Byleistr’s appearance—Loki’s big brother, who plays a vital role in his character arc (and is basically the root of his depression and the reason he’s such a mess).

I’ve always had a lot of headcanons about Byleistr, and I’m pleased that I was kind of right. I always pictured him as more gentle and wiser than Loki. I was curious about what kind of man would give up his immortality to marry a skydweller, and it turns out his personality is exactly what I imagined: the kind of guy who’d do all that. I was honestly shocked that he basically looks like adult Loki with longer hair, but at least now we know they’re truly brothers, lol.

What really surprised me is how much of a “wife guy” Byleistr is. He just radiates “dad energy.” It makes sense since he’s Orchis-chan father, but I didn’t expect them to nail his fatherly side so well. I can’t get over how much he brags about loving his wife and daughter.

On the other hand, what I really want to talk about is his relationship with Loki. This chapter shows such an interesting dynamic between them. From their interactions, Byleistr is clearly the yasashii oniisan to Loki. Considering how nutso Loki is and how he was treated as an outcast by the other Astrals, Byleistr’s kindness makes it easy to understand why Loki became such a massive brocon, wwww. It’s now confirmed that they had a great relationship before their fallout, and it’s touching to see that Byleistr still wants to reconnect with Loki despite their fight over his relationship with Viola. Byleistr’s anger over Loki’s stunt at the Erste Empire was also intriguing, especially since he admitted he still hasn’t forgiven Loki for it (understandable, since Loki basically spat on his wife’s legacy and nearly killed Orchis).

Another big highlight for me was Loki finally asking Byleistr the question he’s been holding onto since his brother’s death. I always thought he’d ask for forgiveness or express regret, but instead he asked why Byleistr chose to chain himself to the Sky Realm and even naturalize there. That gave so much depth to Loki’s motivation. We’ve seen how depressed he is in the main story, but it always felt like there was something unresolved. I used to think Loki forming a crew and trying to understand Skydwellers was just him messing around, but it turns out he was unconsciously searching for answers. Loki didn’t just struggle with losing his brother, he couldn’t understand why Byleistr made that choice. He wanted to know what his brother saw and understood, even if his early attempts came out in twisted ways (I suspect it because he's still mourning voer his death). When Loki finally got that answer, I honestly cried. And when Danchou saved him and he called us a hero, it felt like Loki was finally saved too.

His fight with Repti (or Demiurge) was also fascinating. Repti calling him out for being “aimless” and having zero principles—while Loki agreed—was just… damn.

Anyway, this is getting long, but I’m so happy Loki and Byleistr finally reunited, and more importantly, that we finally got Byleistr’s design after like a decade, lol. I really hope we get more of Loki’s backstory in flashbacks—like why he was called “low birth” and what he was like during the War. Hopefully the next chapter dives into this..onegai Cygames....

Also from Byleistr design at least we know where Loki get his slutty fashion came from, while brothers is fucking manslut lmao

I wonder what did Loki mean by this.....
